Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why is it important to me that Roth Investment Management is a “fiduciary”?
A. A fiduciary is compelled to do things for the absolute best interests of the client – this is not the case for all in the financial services industry. Brokers and some insurance providers are not fiduciaries. They are held to a lower standard – they only have to provide advice which is “suitable” – so they can recommend to you a higher payout investment for themselves as long as it is “suitable.” Roth Investment Management cannot, and never would, do this. We are paid for the advice and management we perform and always have our client’s best interest in mind.
Q. How are you compensated?
A. We manage accounts on a discretionary basis for most clients. Our fee is 1% of the assets managed for amounts up to $1,000,000. Fees drop to 0.85% for amounts between $1,000,000 to $5,000,000 and 0.75% for amounts over $5,000,000. We also provide financial planning services and may provide consulting which may be billed for a plan or hourly. As a fiduciary, we will structure our compensation to best meet our clients' interests and objectives.
Q. How is the management fee paid?
A. The management fee is taken directly out of the account at the end of each month. So, assuming your management fee is 1%, 1/12th of 1% of your account’s value is charged at the end of each month.
Q. What is the minimum amount I can invest?
A. There is no minimum account balance for an IRA account. The minimum for a taxable brokerage account is $10,000. We are primarily interested in working with investors with a long-term time horizon.
Q. I do not have any accounts outside of my employer sponsored retirement savings account. What can you do for me?
A. We can work with you to develop a financial plan, set goals, and have follow up meetings to assist you and/or your family in meeting those goals. As a part of the plan, we can assist in the asset allocation (the percentage put into the various investment options available in your retirement account). Our fees for this type of account are less than the management fees for our actively managed accounts. Please contact us for more information if interested.
Q. I already work with a financial advisor, can I work with you as well?
A. Yes. Many clients have more than one financial professional. They chose to do this to increase their diversification. You can choose to open an account with Roth Investment Management for a portion of your portfolio.
Q. Can you work with my advisor, CPA, lawyer, or any advisor I may choose to help craft my plan?
A. If you have a financial advisor which is a part of a Registered Investment Advisor, it is likely we can work directly with their firm. We are happy to work with any professionals which the client gives us written authorization to speak to or meet with.
Q. I have a 401k from a previous job. Can you manage it?
A. Generally, a 401k, 403b, or other retirement account can be rolled over into an Individual Retirement Account (IRA). We can manage this account for you according to any of our strategies or a custom strategy designed just for you.
